MSM Dam Bursts

Yesterday, Rocketman posted on the MSM's calculated recalcitrance in reporting the news burbling in the blogosphere, and there's also a good update at The American Thinker today. But when Jon Stewart is mocking you, perhaps it's time to throw in your cards. This morning, The NYT reported on the burgeoning ACORN scandal, and in a profile on Glenn Beck (which is becoming stock in trade for them), Time outlines some of the impact Beck has had on the stories that are, apparently, suddenly fit to print.

So tight was the feedback loop in the echo chamber, that Nancy Pelosi was blissfully ignorant of ACORN's housing defunding in the Senate. In the past couple of days, even ABC's Charlie Gibson seems to have become aware of the controversy swirling around ACORN.

And suddenly it's become apparent that the intarwebs aren't the tail anymore, but the dog. This time, Big Government's James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles sting San Diego, where an ACORN employee propositions Hannah and offers to help use Tijuana connections to help smuggle El Salvadoran tweens across the border---for a cut of the action. Hell, yesterday even Gibbs had to admit that he found the behavior of certain ACORN employees "completely unacceptable." And today Newspeak was called out for photo flummery.*

This story has legs . . . and not just Hannah Giles's, though obviously those don't hurt.

Darleen notes that the wimmyn have nothing to say about it.

Newspeak's defense of their cropping the photo is unintentionally hilarious:

Frank J. De Maria, the vice president of corporate communications at Newsweek, issued this statement Wednesday in response:

We doubt any reasonable reader would, in David’s phrase, think something “sinister, macabre, or even evil” was going on in that image as presented. Yes, the picture has been cropped, an accepted practice of photographers, editors and designers since the invention of the medium. We cropped the photograph using editorial judgment to show the most interesting part of it. Is it a picture of the former vice president cutting meat? Yes, it is. Has it been altered? No. Did we use the image to make an editorial point — in this case, about the former vice president’s red-blooded, steak-eating, full-throated defense of his views and values? Yes, we did.

Dick Cheney, red in tooth and claw, full-throated in his gaping maw, is THE ULTIMATE CARNIVORE.

  4. **BREAKING** House Votes to Cut All Funds to ACORN by Publius
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) offered the Defund-ACORN bill to the Student Loans bill. The House vote convincingly to cut ALL federal funds to ACORN.

Vote: 375 to 75. Complete results here.

  6. I was pleased to see Rep. Issa’s take money from ACORN pass. What surprised me was that 75 Dems voted against it. Follow me here, plese:

Those two brave young kids got ACORN workers to agree to help with child sex slavery.

Therefore a vote against the Issa Ammendment was a vote in favor of child sex slavery.

There were several Representatives that I recognise as being women, who should logically be against child sex slavery, voting for child sex slavery.

There were many Representatives that I recognise as black voting for child sex slavery.

Worst of all, there were several Representatives that I recognise as black women voting for child sex slavery.

My great-great grandfather fought at Shiloh and Vicksburg and then took the walking tour through Georgia, then turned around at the coast and went through the Carolinas and into Virginia to help corner Bobbie Lee. He did this to end slavery. And here are the decsendents of those freed slaves, voting for child sex slavery.

That trembling you feel in your feet? It’s all those who gave their lives to end slavery turning over in their graves.

  7. Good point Peter,
There is an almost delicious irony, in the literary sense, of Democrats, especially black ones, not voting to cut off the funds of an organization that condones child sex slavery…

But, you know, if it doesn’t fit the narrative

  8. Yes, well – it is a tragedy. And it is important to note that what is at issue here – and what should be obvious to onlookers – is that this clearly demonstrates that claims of being for the little guy is packaging. the product is shitty – but the marketing is strong. and appealing to the do-gooders. they are being marketed to – but the product they see on the shelf – that they buy – is poison. and the pushers of this poison do not care who consumes it – as much as that it is consumed.
