Raaaaacism and Other Matters [UPDATED]

Today's my daughter's 14th birthday, so I'll be out and about on various missions of fun with her and, later, her BFFs. Still, I'd like to recommend Ric Locke's reflection on the charge of racism as something to ponder.

It's interesting on its own merits, but perhaps moreso at the moment, after Michelle Obama's apparently impassioned argument that women, in particular, are crushed by the burden of health care. There are some objective ways in which one might inspect the truth value of this statement, but they don't really matter. What's important in this assertion is that women feel more for their fellows, and that constitutes a burden that others---namely, men---simply can't understand. In short, it's a familiar form of special pleading, and an invitation to gender-baiting.

And feelings are important. If I, for example, were to write a piece of literary criticism from a feminist perspective, I'm quite sure that I could do a creditable job from a purely theoretical vantage. But then, if feminist readers knew who I was, they would be able to base their criticism on the premise that the feeling wasn't right.

Whatever the issue is, you can bet that the Obamas will assert a special right based on authenticity to address it, even if that authenticity has to be manufactured with resort to fictionalizaton. And that really is the self-affirming basis of progressivism, which is as artificial and smug an enclave as Hyde Park in Chicago, a place where people are given mid-six-figure incomes for patient dumping, like Michelle Obama, or for slum-lording, like Valerie Jarrett, and that gives them the moral stature to lecture the likes of you and me. In case you're confused about how that works, please refer to this handy flow chart.

Last night, too, I spent some time updating the blog roll, but if I've rudely forgotten you, please let me know. Only, however, if I've done so rudely.

And Jay at Stop the ACLU announces that they're joining the boycott of Politico.

UPDATE: OMFG! We like totally have a sleepover!

  3. well, in speaking with the Fish Monger last night, he pointed out that liberals do, in fact, see themselves as the most sincere pumpkins in the patch! and the smartest! and the most highly edumacated.

There is a reason they just continue to talk and talk and talk us all to death. Like a person who raises their voice and speaks slowly to someone of a different native tongue – the thinking is that if they just repeat it over and over again with hand gestures – if only the audience would REALLY listen – REALLY, REALLY listen – REALLY REALLY REALLY listen, even the dumbest of the proletariat would finally see the light! Erm… see it just like they do.

That is, in their tiny little over-edumacated brains, wherein not a moment of actual life experience in the real world has transpired, opposition to their opinions is illogical. And if the opposition is illogical (having demonstrated that anyone with sufficient pedigree (having read all of the right books, gone to all the right schools, shared all the same lectures from the same professors) arrives, as they have to the transcendent positions of truf). And if the opposition persists and is not due to issues of logic… it must come down to lack of information. But if they are informed and still come to a different opinion, then race must be considered… or gender… or life experience. After all, Michelle and Barack and the rest of the Soros Administration are in full agreement with one another – having “spoken about it a lot”.

Oh, massah Obama, enlighten me, your ignorant servant – in the ways of duh wurld! Take me to the promised land!

  4. Happy Birthday to young Ms. Collins!

A professor I know from [Asian culture] who studies [second Asian culture] gets really steamed when people question it. She points out that if she were an American studying French literature, no one would say anything about it.

On the other hand, it might stop people who are so white they’re friggin’ transparent (e.g., Ric Caric) from claiming expertise on the “black experience”.

P.S. I can haz blog roll?

  10. Much of the problem with racist accusations aren’t the motive of the accuser, rather it’s the ad hominem denialist rebuttal.

What’s it cost you to be a frickin racist in denial? Nothing. What’s it cost you to deny? Nothing. Cheap is the rebuttal.

Are you a thief? Of course, you’ve stolen something at one time in your life.

Are you a liar? Of course you are, you’ve lied during your life.

Are you a racist? Of course you are, you know what color your skin is and what color it isn’t, and to be human is to be instinctual and tribal.

Ric Locke is a racist and a narcissistic brainwashed little bigoted animal. To what degree is the argument at this point, no? Sound harsh, well, words hurt! Waaaaaagh!

    Base truth. Figure it out.

  12. edge,
your explanation is poppycock! Just beacause you have done something once in your life, doesn’t mean that you have embraced the particular transgression as part of your character…

A thief is someone eho makes a living by robbing others; not one who has shoplifted bubble gum as a youth…

A liar is one who does so on a regular basis, for self-aggrandizement or some other form of personal gain…

And a racist is someone who believes that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of any particular race. So just because a person has used the “N” word once in their life, doesn’t make them a racist…

I reject your notion of tribalism overcoming our reason, and I definately reject your disparagment of Ric Locke.

I’m sorry, but your entire comment was meaningless palaver…

  13. Cry if you need to. Truth is oft times so painful.

Welcome to the darkness of the human abyss, cry baby.

“I’ll never forget, no way, they crucified Jesus Christ. I’ll never forget, no way, they sold Marcus Garvey for ice.” Bob Marley

I like Ric Locke, OK, I guess. It’s just that he’s an odious, vile, foul, fuckin’ bigot spout. One of us humans, but with little in the way of remorse for his infernal and profane rotteness.

We are all capable of killing and eating each others entrails; battle of Kursk, didn’t you learn anything from it, soldier?

Ric Locke wants to kill women and babies. He deludes himself that it’s righteous under the circumstance, and that circumstance comes with in the clash of his vile evil nature, his grand delusions and, of course, the opportunity!

Just ask Ric about Colombia. Big time! Wound up from a bedtime story, a fable, a simple string of signifiers creating signifieds, as Jeff G. would say, and Ric was ready to eat the heads off Communist babies! Recalling how Hitler told such stories of Jews, this is how that genocide game generally begins and ends. The evil want and the gullible willing.

Ric Locke, willing killer of helpless children. He just needs to be told what to do and he’ll do as he told. Kill, kill, kill, he will!

Hahaha! The horror that is Ric Locke! But you, Bob, want me to believe that a baby killer in waiting is simply incapable of pedestrian racism? No thanks. I’ll go with my hunch.

  14. Bob Reed :

    edge,
your explanation is poppycock! Just beacause you have done something once in your life, doesn’t mean that you have embraced the particular transgression as part of your character…

Tell that line to a judge or jury and tell me how it works out for ya. When did you go all ACLU on us, anyway, hahaha.

  15. There is much to be learned from the battle of Kursk edge,
but the lesson can only come of you’re willing to face facts; you’re not. Instead, you want to feed the worldview you’ve constructed of the glorious Soviets going it alone and single-handedly crushing the Nazis…

But I digress, your cartoonish view of Kursk-entrail eating and all, just like your wandering diatrable about Ric, baby killing, and Columbia sounds like an acid trip to me…

While I have heard Ric mention from time to time that he is a racist, and recognizes that, I often took that to be flip; but if not then I feel sorry, especially as a Christian, that he can’t put that behind him…

But you go too far in your hyperbolic characterization of Ric as a wanton baby killer and such; it is over the top, and lacking in artistic flourish…

And don’t worry, I didn’t go all ACLU on ya! I was simply illuminating the flaw of your reasoning in that comment about how we are all thieves, liars, and racists…

  16. Ric Locke a racist? You’re too generous! The man fantasizes of chasing brown-skinned 6-year-old Trotskyites through the Amazon wearing nothing but a leopard skin thong and a buck knife. He’s full-on berserk.

And the Philosophical Ric is just as berserk. From the sinkhole that is his life, he emerges with a wet pole cat in one hand and a German Shepherd in the other and pretends to rub their heads together like flint chips just before announcing his dramatic bonfire of epiphanies and banal conclusions, or Rules, as he calls them.

Ric Locke takes me back to days of yore, reminding me of the gigantic littleness in mind of all those substitute school teachers back in junior high. Yes, I harken back to one history class in particular taught by a substitute. Her name was Tory Dove, don’t laugh Anglophiles, for she wrote it on the chalkboard in loud Sorority cursive. As with Ric, youngish Tory could dutifully deliver an endless trail of meaningless, a Biblical flood of meaningless, pure meaninglessness uncut. As well like Ric, she had her own humble translation of past events, such as “if you get tired while doing your homework, remember the Alamo.” She’s lucky none of us took her seriously enough to drink a tall glass of cyanide to remedy our yawns. Tory’s memory lives on in my mind. A full 50-minutes of pondering the full extent of fun I could’a had with her tits if she were bound properly. Those were the days. And she had some big proud boobs.

  21. Anyone see the President on the TV this morning? I think he hinted at getting rid of the military entirely, joining the E.U., unionizing those currently unemployed and promoting French poetry in pre-K.

    He’s a man with a plan.

  22. What the hell happened to Dan Collins? He used to be fun and imaginative even if he was wrong 1000% of the time. I can’t decide whether Collins was off his meds or over-medicated when he wrote this stuff. Whatever, he needs an adjustment. Collins also needs to recommend better criticism of racism accusations. That Ric Locke post was lame to the nth degree. I realize that Collins and Locke are both Protein Wisdom guys. But Locke was sinking in the quicksand of his own bloviation. Joe Biden himself couldn’t have done worse.
