UPDATE: Bingley says, and probably quite rightly, that I shouldn't use a pic of this solemn ceremony to score "cheap points," but I believe this is Obama's way of saying McChrystal isn't getting his 40k troops for Afghanistan. Obama said he wasn't interested in victory over Iran on the nuclear issue, but I think he's not much interested in victory at all, unless it's against his perceived domestic enemies.

UPDATE x2: Peter Wehner agrees with Bingley. I'm sure I feel bitter because I don't want their sacrifice to be in vain.

    Photographers.

    That difference is everything. This wasn’t an opportunity for Obama to show his respect to our fallen. This was an opportunity for Obama to be seen showing his respect for our fallen. Staged and produced especially for the morning news broadcasts, and timed to distract us from his dithering on Afghanistan.

    The Mighty Oz can try to hide behind flag-draped coffins and honor guards, but we don’t have to let him get away with it.

          Our top military brass are working out the replacement strategy to the previous failed Bush/Cheney cower and run Afghanistan strategy.

          In that article I linked it goes into detail of what’s involved in the necessary troop rotation to bolster our forces toward McChrystal’s new strategy, which will put more of our soldiers in harm’s way, which means in the short-term they estimate we will see higher casualties. But if our soldiers are willing to die for our country then the least you can do is fuck-off with the girly-boy Reagan-retreater duddering. This ain’t girly-talker time.

          McChrystal’s repositioning of our troops and the build-up was planned to take up to 12-months to implement. There was never any faggoty snap of the fingers and troops-magically-appear magic act, herr Reagan-retreater.

          Man-up.

    Our C-in-C should have been paying his respects long before a camera just happened to be there; it smacks of convenience in timing and his customary shallowness.

    And all the top brass are waiting for is for him to quit consulting the runes, or entertaining the inane ramblings of Biden of Arabia, Dithering, and killing time to the off year elections next week and announce the effin’ decision already; at this point it’s beginning toeffect morale, according to reports…

    I understand what’s involved in rotating personnel and repositioning assets, and I read the article you linked, and neither of these are applicable. The inconvenient truth is that he’s going to provide a half-measure of reinforcements and go to something Obama smoochers are casting as a “hybrid” solution, or McChrystal light; which means the political crew of Rahm, Axelrod, Kos and that ass Biden have won the argument…

    You see, just as with the nationa and the economy, they’ve decided to adopt the losing strategy of the Soviets in the 1980′s. Reports sat they’re going to stick to holding the ten major cities, and allow the Taliban the field, mountains, and hamlets across the rest of the country. I can’t stress enough how much of a losing strategy this is; it’s a thinly veiled predicate to declaring victory and leaving like in Vietnam…

    Oh, and the party, and now President, that cynically called this the “good” and “noble” war that must be won at all costs, who also never missed a day to decry Biiiiiish! for dropping bombs on innocent women and children, is advocating just that…The hypocrisy knows no bounds…

    Obama’s voting present on this, as with so many other important matters in is career. He tool the strategy Booooosh! and Cheney had decided to do, but didn’t implement out of respect for the incoming President, calling it his own, and appointing his own general. But when that general tells what he need to accomplish it, all he hears are crickets…

    Just like Rumsfeld they’re going to try and do it on the cheap, using the same failed approach the Soviets succeeded in losing with…

    I have no confidence, nor much patience left, in this inexperienced narcissistic President…
