You are already using #1 aren’t you?
I’d vote for #4 – nice clean lines, distinct enough to recognize as I scroll down the screen, not too light/dark.

Enoch:
Is there any way to incorporate a visual reference to your friend James?

I like 4, but 2 is waaay cool…
Hey, why don’t you just regularly rotate your avatar?
‘Cuz really, they’re all good.

I’ve been inching closer to getting my first tattoo here lately. It’s one of the things I want to do before I turn 50–so time is increasingly of the essence.
I’ve been thinking of an armband around my bicep.
Too trite, Enoch?

Wait…Are you talking about an actual tatoo Enoch? If so, are boobies out of the question?

They all look good to me, but one thing you need to think about is how well these would “age”. You want something that will look okay as you wrinkle, as the lines fade and smear into each other.
I like all 4, just consider placement and that whole aging thing.

About the armband situation… had a friend do that. And then he got fat.
Anyway.
This is why I don’t consider tattoos. I think about what it will look like when I’m 80. My fix: I’m waiting til I’m 80 to get a tat.

I like number 4, but only so they’ll know where to send you in the afterlife.

Bob – HA! well yes – I am speaking about an actual tattoo. Although I did laugh my ass off at the thought of thinking so hard on an avatar. Only on the web.
meep – I am already fat, so what happens if I miraculously lose a bunch of poinds?
Cowboy – before James’ death I would have said anyone getting a tattoo past the age of 35yrs would be silly – I have changed my mind on that point.
Dan – yes, well one can never be too careful. The theological question is this: since my body is not my own, is it abusive to get a tattoo?
And: location, location, location is key.
As for colors of B&W, I will stick with B&W, as it is easier to get a good B&W tattoo that will not “bleed” over time. Fade, yeah – bleed, no… depending on the talent of the artist.

Enoch
As far as I knew tatoos were verboten in Catholicism. Check with your Pastor, though, for a certain answer. I mean, a lot of other things I’ve done were verboten too!
Fortunately, the Lord has a good sense of humor, a lot of patience, unconditional love, and infinite forgiveness…
So, you know, we got that going for us!

About those things verboten: you’re so going to hell, just so you know.
Don’t worry Bob, once you get to hell, if I get there first, I’ll pour you a drink and re-introduce you to all the whores you once fucked. Shooting pool, cards, fishing, smoking, drinking, fighting, fucking, it’ll be hell!

I vote for “no ink.” I don’t think there’s anything morally wrong with ink. I just think it’s ugly.

Just skip it. Cheaper. Less painful and lower regret.

I didn’t catch that it was a tattoo that you were talking about (“new ink” – duh!). For a tat, I vote for color – go with # 1. My SiL had some nice tattoos done 30+ years ago on her arms – they had faded enough that she had them re-done, and changed slightly to match her changed tastes.

I will never seriously consider a tattoo, for reasons explained here.
