Reactions to Obama’s Big Speech
If you want to talk about Chris Tingle's idiot statement about the enemy camp, or talk about Charles Johnson's whinging, or Krauthammer whaling on Sully like he's a two-timing golf god, go somewhere else. Doltishness on the part of Matthews or Johnson or Sully isn't newsworthy or interesting anymore, at least to me.
Rocketman got his predictions about the speech right.
I support the troop buildup, but Good Lord, Obama's swipes at Booooosh have gotten old. Lots of "progressives" are deeply disappointed, of course, but anything that doesn't immediately clear the way for Utopia disappoints them, and those who are disappointed must not have been listening very clearly when Obama repeatedly stated the policy toward Afghanistan that he needed to in order to be elected. He spent 88 days trying to figure out the best way to appear to carry out his presumed objectives whilst appeasing his base (and, unfortunately, providing comfort to the Taliban) in time for the next election.
I didn't watch the speech last night, but I read it this morning. It's the equivalent of a football coach rallying his players by saying, "So, let's go out there and get a field goal, and try to prevent them from scoring!" Yid with Lid serves up an annotated transcript of the address, which I heartily endorse, and at American Spectator, John Guardiano offers a pithy conspectus.
Jesus Christ, will you shut up?
As a follow-up to my screed on Obama and Human Rights, yesterday, you might want to check out this post.

But Dan, doltishness never goes out of style!

I did not watch the speech, because I was out when it was on. Charlie Brown Christmas got bumped. I assume it will run again, but it is not announced. Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer is on tonight though and I am sure I can draw some Afghan War analogy out of the interaction with the Abominal Snowman, or reflections on how Santa in that work is really a jerk, or whether the Island of Misfit Toys represents a socialism utopia.

Good morning, Cheney-chiming cowardly wingers!
First of all, very little Bob “Scare Pee” Reed whinnies about has any truth value. That’s why I’ve pegged the man as a conventional liar. You Lie, Scare Pee!
Secondly, Chris Matthews is God. Let’s not blaspheme, agreed? Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a hand grenade filled with pig tits, Ty Domi sitting in a penalty box next to you, bad things happen to those that blaspheme MSNBC’s big bad blond Irish oracle. Let’s avoid that mess.
Lastly, after 7-years of neo-con scare-pee-type pussies pussy footing in Afghanistan it looks like we have a C-in-C with some low-swingers in the bag.
God Bless America. God Bless the honorable President Barack H. Obama.

I heartily endorse “Yid with Lid’s” annotated sppech; he fisked Obama words pretty darn good…
I’ll admit, in the beginning I was surprised to find myself agreeing with Obama, even as far as admitting that the Iraq war drained resources from what was an admittedly quiet Afghan front at the time, which incidentally was why the troop levels there were a fraction of what they were in Iraq-a fact you think our Brilliant! C-in-C would “get”. I did, however, recognize it for the slam on Bush that it was.
Where he began to lose me was when he un-necessarily repeated the lie about deciding to finally fill long standing troop requests. Cheney has made it clear that he and Bush were all to aware of these requests, but chose not to tie the next Presidents hands by acting on them so late in their term-just as they didn’t bomb Iran, something I do hold against them by the way.
And it only got worse from there. Not only did he put down clear markers of where the exit ramp would be, to anyone who understands logistics, he effectively put a time limit of 12 months on this “surge”. And he hypocritically whinged about how, to date, the combined war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan had cost nearly one trillion dollars(!1!!1!eleventy). But this is the guy who blew nearly that much in one fell swoop on the spendulus combined with the increases in the 2009 budget! And, if Obamacare becomes the law of the land it will cost our economy nearly 6 times that much money over the next 8 years…
Then he shifted gears and stopped talking about foreign policy altogether, and inserted a commercial for all of the great domestic policy related things he had already done for us as well the plans he had in store. At that point I realized he was completely off the rails…
I found his speech to be stilted and disjointed; as if the efforts of several writers were mish-mashed into one address. I thought the Presidents demeanor was uncertain, and contrived; he clearly was not comfortable with what he was saying and I fear came across as unbelievable to both our allies and enemies alike. Just look at this from Der Spiegel:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,664753,00.html
It was clearly a speech aimed at keeping the nutroots from turning on him, so they could be relied on in the coming political crunch as well as doing advance work for the 2010 and 2012 elections. About the only good things I can say are; 1) he’s sending 30,000 more soldiers there, and 2) He dod leave some wiggle room on the withdrawl conditions, tossing in the words, “depending on the situation on the ground, of course”; but I’m not sure whether they were CYA operational weasel words, or his idea of a bone to the “adults” in the military and foreign policy commumities…

You’re no adult, you’re a braying angst-ridden juvenile.
I want to find a closed fist made of plaster and paint it red-white-and-blue. I’ll mail it to you so you can punch yourself in the face in a display of cinematic expression reflecting the way real patriotic America hammers your yam.

More insults I see, instead of refutations…
And Obama is my President; he’s the President of all the United States. So he needs to wuit acting like he’s only the President of the far-left Democrats…
