The Health Care Fiasco: Worse Than “The Phantom Menace” [UPDATED]
It's true that Bernie Sanders and Mary Landrieu (see Louisiana Purchase) got bought off in order to vote for this unprecedented historic abortion of a bill that hasn't even been written yet, but nothing compares with what Ben Nelson gets: 100% federal funding of Medicaid in Nebraska in perpetuity.
Nothing in American history resembles this legislation for sheer jerry-building so much as the Nebraska-Kansas Act of 1854. The Republic has gone rickety.
It's hard for me to be sanguine, under the circumstances. It will be fascinating watching elderly Floridians pack up and head to Nebraska, I suppose, so there's that. Unfortunately, we are obligated to continue to resist this enormous fuck you of a "Christmas present" in whatever fashion we can. Nothing says Feliz Navidad like federally funded abortion, dontcha know. Here's a place to start.
What comes next is very discomforting to think about. But we have now crossed that line from what our country was into something else, and that something else has nothing whatsoever with the country being a Republic. There will be a reckoning for this, and it will not be pleasant — not for anyone.
However ill this makes you, I'm afraid that I anticipate the actual shape and effects of the legislation, when it assumes final form, will be worse than any of us could possibly have imagined. Likely even worse than The Phantom Menace.
UPDATE: Others are making the same comparison (to Nebraska-Kansas, not The Phantom Menace). And if I thought anyone over at AoSHQ ever read this blog, I'd consider maybe the rough beastiality had something to do with this, but that's just the anxiety of effluence, I'm sure.

Tohr – despite what you think, pointing your XBox controller at SDN and clicking the triangle button won’t really do anything.

Aren’t you the one that whinged ad infinatum that SDN threatened you with violence? And others of hypocrisy?
You need to apologize to SDN and everyone here for that hypocrisy on your part…

More threats eh? Especially vile if SDN is crippled as you allege.
It takes a big man to operate under constatntly changing phony names and proxy IP’s and threaten people…
I’m in Long Beach, look me up. It’s not hard. Everyone knows Bob Reed here. The big man with the big heart and hearty laugh.
I’m your huckleberry…

Hold your breath until I get there.
HAhaha.
Where are these vile threats that you claim, nutball?
I have to go eat but I’ll check in later to read your always entertaining invention of words.

I’m not sure it’s considered a threat, Bob, to tell someone who claims they’re coming to shoot ya that you’ve prepared a little something more than frosted cupcakes for ‘em when they arrive, hahaha.
I live in Florida. We have very liberal property protection laws and legal precedents which allow for self-defense by means of deadly force.
Maybe that’s where you’re confused, Bob. Here, thanks to Jeb, one can blow someone’s head off if they merely break into your car, not just your house. This is a free fire zone!

Jeb did you all a favor.
But if I recall, what you considered the original “threat” from SDN was him merely responding to some of your, “I’ll kick your ass”, schwaggery…
When you do things that you decry, especially when you ask others for relief from the same, is one of the definitions of hypocrisy.
But, you already indicted that that was OK with you earlier. Which one of the Alinsky rules is that…

I’m with you, Dan. Between what they may still do to this bill before it passes, and what Cass Sunstein and Company will continue to do to it through the regulatory process after it passes, will be far worse than anything we can imagine. Though my imagination’s pretty good, and I already have some dark, dark, entirely legitimate fears about both the process and the result.

We’ve become accustomed to images on TV of young, useful idiots covering their faces and throwing bricks through windows in supposed indignation at the current state of affairs worldwide. What we’ve not seen are the images that are coming; those of middle aged Americans in three piece suits or baseball caps and work boots deliberately taking up arms and marching on our nation’s capitol.
But this is where we are. We’ve marched with signs. We’ve sent letters, petitions and made phone calls. But, all to no avail.
In the end there is only one amendment to “The Bill of Rights” that will really matter and that is the Second. We have been pushed to a breaking point by our politicians. They don’t believe we’ll do it, even though the signs are all around. They just can’t or are not allowed to see them.
People across this country, good solid citizens have been readying themselves for this moment. We hoped and prayed that it could be avoided; it has become clear that it cannot. So we’ve bought guns and ammo; we’ve laid in stores.
We’re ready for a fight. We will protect and defend our Constitution even if those sworn to will not. Because we have to; for us and for our kids. The only other option is to roll over. If we do, we’ll deserve the communist, one world hell we will have allowed.

There’s more of us, and we are more able-bodied and capable of handling adversity, than you statists.
How long could you deal with privation? When was the last time you actually put it on the line for a cause larger than yourself?
And I’m not talking about writing a check to the Obama campaign.

Yes – things are about to get very interesting.
SDN has the right of it – buy guns and ammunition. Because by the time you actually need them you wont be able to get them.

That’s where all of you communists need to go; they already have the government you profess to desire. And here’s a clue-it doesn’t work-even on the relatively small population they have there!
You don’t love America anyway, so you might like it up there…
