The Judas Ratio – Revisited

This is a Repost - from an old blog of mine. I have attached a portion of a comment received that further develops the concept.

For several years I have been toying with the concept of a "Judas Ratio." The Judas Ratio can be thought to be the 8% (1/12) of any demographic segment (whether professional or otherwise) that can be expected to be complete scoundrels.

The concept originated with my father, Dan Sr., who postulated the thought to explain the "radical priests" during the pedophilia outing that occurred some years back. He said something along these lines: "If the Master Himself had one among his group who would sell Him and his own soul for a bag of cash, isn't it likely the rest of us will have to suffer the same?" That goes for the Church, our schools, our bureaucrats, our politicians, our businesses (managers and employees alike), our neighbors, our family members, et cetera.

I think there is something to this Judas Ratio business. It may be that some of the 8% are never found out, while others are eventually dis-covered. But, nonetheless, I think it holds.

If this Judas Ratio is true, is it only true in respect to individuals, or could it be true to an individual? I mean, could 8% of our own thoughts also be a Judas to ourselves? - Nevermore

Nevermore's observation is right on the money. The fallen aspect of Man exists solely within the individual - an inheritance from the First Parents. And all expressions of this fallen nature come from the individual - in thoughts, actions, and words... that is, the weeds of sin sown by the devil alongside the wheat requires the active participation of the individual to manifest.

What a brutal cancer.

  1. I believe they are called the reprobate.
The ones who have chosen hell from the beginning of time.

  2. I’ll buy this theory, although it would take a large sampling of society and years of study to actually prove…

Sounds like you need a federal grant to me; from whatever agency all of this phony-baloney [insert victim group here] studies are funded…

  3. I think it’s even clearer to continue along the line you’ve started–that is, that individuals are, roughly, 8% Judas.

    8% motivated entirely by self-interest.
8% goaded by appetite, not guided by morality.
    8% blindly cynical.

8% who actively, intentionally deny that which is higher than them, or in them.

On bad days like today, I am convinced that even if I can muster my full 92%, the 8% of myself that’s tainted by Original Sin pollutes my best intentions.

  4. “the pedophilia outing that occurred some years back”

Actually most of that was homosexual Ephebophelia: teenage boys.

    • Either way, it’s evil.

With regard to the Judas Ratio in general, I think that the percentage is much higher among people who have already gained power in the corporate world, the media, and politics.
