Vermont Winter
Thoughts on Irving Berlin's "White Christmas."
Anyone who's read about the song will remember being told that the United States, now inevitably plunged into WWII, was looking for comfort in nostalgia. But it might be a little more than just that. The 1930s had seen the Dust Bowl, and the reasons (apart from poor erosion control) were rooted in climate changes, including a decrease in precipitation throughout much of the country. Fortunately for Russia and the Western Allies, that situation turned around dramatically over the next few years.
So, it's not just a trope for nostalgia. During the hard times of the Great Depression, there really had been less snow.

I just leave it idling 24/7 into the greenhouse. It’s good for the tomato plants.

Nice pic Dan, it looked like that here on Long Island last week…
And it’s been flurrying on and off all weekend. Nothing substantial, just enough to keep the snow cover looking “fresh”.
