Authorship Redefined

I guess this means that it's unlikely the Edwards-Hunter sex tape is a hoax. She's apparently wanting the tape back: "I authored a personal video...that depicted matters of a very private and personal nature."

Hey, baby . . . how about we go back to my place and . . . compose?

A former aide to two-time presidential candidate John Edwards said he's received and rejected offers of "gigantic amounts of money" to sell what he says is a sex tape showing Edwards with his former mistress.

Maybe size doesn't matter?

I've got an idea: now that your book's out, and Rielle has pretty much admitted that she made such a tape, why don't you destroy it for the sake of the daughter, who's the least illegitimate thing about this whole clusterfarce?

That suggestion makes way too much sense in this whole clusterfuck of a story. You are suggesting someone take the honorable and sane path – what’s the chance of that?

  3. As for the sex tape: If you need to make a videorecording to validate how great your sex was, it probably wasn’t that great.

    • Yeah. Politicians ought to be able to expect all the adulation that comes with their public self-fashioning, but none of the responsibilities? Uh, bitch, please.

  5. Dan,

Mr. Young says that he turned over the tape to the Grand Jury investigating the Edwards campaign. Of course he may have made a copy of the tape.

As you suggested the gentlemenly thing to do would be to destroy any copies he has control of. But; considering who he is dealing with (Edwards specifically), it is somewhat justifiable to maintain evidence of the claims in his book until all parties agree to settle the matter.

  6. Right, but who would believe Edwards anyway, at this point?

  7. Mr Young doesn’t have to believe he would lose a lawsuit to fear one. Holding on to a copy of the tape is like an insurance policy against a potentially costly and time consuming legal action.

If Edwards and Hunter both agree to dismiss further suits and sign a confidential disclosure of the contents of the tape then Mr. Young will have no further justification for keeping a copy of the tape.

(btw I am not defending Andrew Young. He comes across as someone almost as self-absorbed as Edwards)

Personally, I’d like the whole story to just go away. If John Edwards had a shred of decency in him he would never make another public appearance much less run for public office.

    • If John Edwards had a shred of decency in him we wouldn’t even need to have this discussion.

Which, I suppose, goes without saying at this point.
