CNN Politics Acts Retardedly

You know, I was planning to let this go, figured it was played out.

Then CNN Politics had to try to prove that Sarah Palin is a hypocrite, because apparently calling a roomful of people "f*cking retarded" is the same thing as calling an utterance "the most retarded thing I've ever heard."

It's not quite as retarded as what Sullivan was on about yesterday, but it's one of the more retarded things I've ever read.

JWF has more retardelicious retardation from the usual suspects.

  1. Quite addlepated, eh? Just the sort of nincompoopery to expect from those sources, though.

Foolish, even. (All men are fools; the thing that we should aim for is not to be damn fools.)

  2. Not really related, but I’ve got a lot of family in the special education biz [as it were].

When I was a kid, they were making a distinction between “educable retarded” [my grandma taught these kids in middle school - regular "special education", they could read, do simple math, could write a bit] and “trainable retarded” [my aunt and uncle dealt with these adults - they couldn't go to regular schools, they could learn to dress themselves, rake leaves, respond appropriately to "hello" "how are you"] … I don’t remember what they called the people who were so mentally disabled that they weren’t even trainable, but then it’s a case of caretaking and education isn’t a part of it.

    • meep – when I was substitute teaching (about 17-18 years ago) I often did the special ed classrooms. (I think I was requested because I was young and a male and could do authority with friendly patience.) And I did take some classes on the subject. Those that were mainstreamed were perfectly fine. But doing gym classes at the districts trainable center was just heart-breaking. I was teaching kids to be able to jump over a line. And that wasn’t easy to do.
