Health insurance and costs: an actuary breaks it down

And no, it's not me. Want to know about annuities? I can help you there.

For health insurance, look to The Anonymous Actuary.

Now, we all know that the Health Care "Reform" bill is not really about costs, not really about health care, but about pure power grabs. But let's pretend someone out there really cares about understanding the issue, and what is driving such huge increases in health insurance premiums.

Here's one of a dozen videos TAA has posted, about how deductibles and employer support, in what is called leveraging, can cause a 9% increase in base costs can translate into a 50% increase in premiums directly paid...without any shenanigans. It's just math.

Meep

Meep is a member of the Irish Catholic mafia, having a suspiciously high number of green-eyed, red-haired friends. While she doesn’t have red hair herself [except when she goes into the sun (rare for any vampire)], she does have green eyes. She’s a raving Papist and is a life actuary on the side [i.e., she counts dead people]. An amateur pain-in-the-ass [willing to go pro!], she likes covering retirement, mortality, math, and education issues.

  1. Dan, could you embed the video for me? The second link.

Wordpress never lets me embed videos for some reason.
