POWIP Piece of Work In Progress – Former Abode of Dan Collins

What Is Heroism?

Not a hero myself, I find it hard to say, but I imagine that a precondition might be embracing the truth regarding oneself. This won't help much, either.

Dan Collins

  1. Blumenthal’s failure was one of ego (as Al Pacino’s Devil said in the Devil’s Advocate, vanity is a biggie).

While pretending to be a veteran is a pretty damning thing to do (especially when Blumenthal went out of his way of actually being drafted to go to Vietnam), it is almost like he was trying to compensate by pretending he went.

So while I could forgive him, if he acted like a man when caught, his reaction on being caught is really revealing of his character. Blumenthal was not stand up. Blumenthal has a character flaw.

  2. Kathleen Parker lets lose on Blumenthal: Had he gone to Vietnam, as he apparently thinks he should have, he would have learned that, and this: Real heroes never brag, and real Marines don’t lie.
