Commenter and All-Around Outstanding Person, Cowboy
I received an email from Cowboy (aka "Catholic Cowboy") requesting prayers.
Cowboy, whose first bout with Cancer was in 1979, is an on-and-off commenter here, at JG's place, and I have even seen him on Patterico.com.
He is heavily medicated at present, having endured another surgery wherein the surgeons removed some lymph nodes, etc.
The "good news" is that what they found is a slow growing variety of Cancer. Cowboy comments that he's "more likely to die of old age" than of the cancer they discovered.
The carcinoid and lymph node are VERY slow growing cancers--so much so that people generally die of old age long before the tumor can kill them. We're mostly worried about the liver spot.
The decidedly bad news is that the doctors also spotted a spot on his liver. This has him very concerned. But in true Cowboy fashion, he is not so concerned for himself but for his family.
I have been in this situation many times. My first operation for cancer was in 1979, so I'm used to it. But Enoch, I worry so much about my family. Any prayers you can pass their way would be more than appreciated.
Today, Cowboy will have more tests conducted to determine what is what with regard to the spot.
He asks for prayers from any and all who are so inclined to say them. He is a devout Christian and a man of faith.
So, I am posting this message here to encourage all well-wishers to spend some moments in their inner room asking for God's blessings.
If I were to consider Cowboy's likely take, he would be asking not so much for a cure (although that would be great, of course), but for strength to endure as the Christ would have him. To provide him and those who love him with the ability to pick up his cross and carry it in the path of Jesus.
So, I offer the following:
Dear God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, of all that is seen and unseen - Immortal One, we beseech thee to send your Holy Spirit to our brother Cowboy. We petition thee to provide him strength and resolve today and in the days that follow. Provide him comfort in the knowing that his suffering is not without merit. Provide him constant companionship in these hours of darkness. May he feel your presence. And may the Grace of the Holy Spirit fill him with hope in the Eternal Promises of the Christ. May he continue to fight the good fight.
Dearest Virgin Mother, Heavenly Queen - Queen of the Cosmos, Mother of God, Tower of Ivory Eternal - "never was it known that any who sought thy help and intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, [we] fly unto thee, oh Virgin of virgins, [our] Mother. Despise not [our] petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer [us]." Mother of the Word Incarnate - please petition thy son, Eternal Mercy, on behalf of our brother, Mathew (Cowboy). Please petition Jesus to allow Cowboy to touch His Vestments... and, if it be the will of God, to place His hand upon Mathew and cure his body. If this is not to be, please ask your son, Our Lord, to kindly accept Cowboy's suffering for the sake of souls in most need of His Mercy.
Lord God, Bless Mathew and his family during these hours of anxiety.
We ask this in the name of Christ, Our Lord,
Amen.

Great prayer Enoch, I’ll add some of my own; both here and in my list of daily intercessions.
Lord, it is by Your stripes we’re healed, and I pray that You grace our brother with Your healing touch, whether directly from Your hand, or indirectly through the graces You give to Your people. I pray that it be Your will that he recover, that this has come to pass and not to stay, and that You grace Cowboy and his family with the strength, courage, and steadfastness they need in their time of trial.
Grant this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Enoch:
Thank you for the beautiful, beautiful prayer.
I am humbled.
Dan and Bob–in the coming days (if my past experiences are any indication), things will get very hectic. I will try to keep in touch to let you know how we’re doing and what the prognosis is.
Again, I don’t have the words necessary to thank you for your prayers.

Cowboy has my heartfelt good wishes.
Given my life recently, I don’t know anybody I hate badly enough to pray for them. Hate corrodes the liver anyway.
Regards,
Ric

Cowboy, hang in there and your family will hang in with you.
May the Lord of Hosts grant you peace and a clear eyed vision of your salvation and your responsibilities. May God bless your family with strength and hope and may you draw personal strength from their blessings. May you always know, in your heart, the power of the prayers sent for your well being and may that knowledge comfort you in dark times and gladden you in times of hope for the future.
Godspeed wrangler.

I’ve been surgically lightened a bit myself and remain pretty much clean.
