POWIP Piece of Work In Progress – Former Abode of Dan Collins

Long-Distance Driving Reflections

Driving back to Vermont, I got to thinking (by way of signage) about the variety of laws promulgated by the states, and reflecting on which made the most and the least sense. So . . . here's your opportunity to vent about the worst and laud the best state laws, not relating solely to traffic, with reasons given, please.

Oh, and Illinois . . . screw your toll booths and the way they're set up. If I were the Governor, I'd designate a week's holiday from paying tolls (maybe around Thanksgiving), just so people could get a good idea of what they've been suckered into. And I-Pass? I'd like to know which politicians are invested in the company that makes those gadgets.

And, just because it hasn't been posted here, yet, my crackers:

Dan Collins

Dan Collins is a dude who blogs. He used to blog elsewhere. Now he blogs here.

  1. Well, I’ve got a federal regulation to bee-yotch about; on ethat, in my thinking, increases public health care costs in this country already-before Obamacare takes hold!

My mother-in-law is 84, and, becuase my schedule is flexible, I often take her around to her various doctor’s for appointments.

She apologizes a lot for inconvenienceing me, although I don’t really mind. But the truth is there are times when we have to visit the same physician several days in succession; because medicare has a rule that doesn’t allow multiple procedures, testing or otherwise, to take place on the same day!

I can’t fathom the motivation for this, save for AMA lobbyists winning their members this as consoloation for the low rates that medicare will pay for individual procedure; to put it in blue-collar parlance, at least they recieve a “service charge” for each scheduled procedure for which they recieve payment at the low-balled rates.

It all offends my engineer’s sense of efficiencey and exactitude…

And makes me wonder if it’s not something that we all have to look forward to.

  2. Oh, and the Morgan Freeman/60 minutes clip?

I know it could be out of context, but, that’s what America is supposed to be all about, baby!

  4. But as long as we are handing out months, I’ll take an Irish History Month and a Catholic History Month. Maybe with a side of ranch dressing.
