Today in Snaqwells History
I'm going to take a moment, a day really, to celebrate an event that should have never had to happen. It's now after midnight here in Chicago, so it's Friday, September 24th. I will be returning home later today, and it will be a rather sentimental and emotional homecoming for me.
In June of 2009, I filed for divorce for reasons that really don't matter at this point. After a summer of deep animosity and struggle, during which she never gave up on me, I collapsed in a heap in a hotel room in Montana. I returned home that night, went to the house to help put the kids to bed; had a pleasant evening with her and then returned to my apartment. The next night, September 24th, was different. After putting the kids to bed, I returned again to my apartment and cried some more. Not 5 minutes after I got home, I called her on the phone. I told her I was going to call my attorney and tell him to call off the whole thing; and she told me to come home.
I won't go so far as to suggest every marriage can or should be salvaged; but in direct opposition to so many words I uttered in the summer of 2009, mine was both worthy and capable of being saved. We celebrated 12 years this past June, but today is my 1 year celebration of clarity.

Marriage is work, and sometimes work sucks. But it’s still worth it. Congratulations on working to fulfill and honor your vows. You have done your children an invaluable service.

Congratulations on preserving your marriage. I see so many marriages which are launched & abandoned seemingly on whims. It’s great to see someone willing to swallow their pride & fight for it.
Me, I learned early on that being a husband was like being mugged. As soon as I shut up and handed over my wallet, things were fine.

Now that’s the sort of thing that will make me spit out my soda and make the people at O’Hare look at me funny.

Congrats for working it out. We are at 7 years this year. Been through a helluva lot myself, but sticking it out was the greatest decision I ever made. I’m a very lucky gal.

Good for you!!! And congratulations. I was married for 18 months and it was 17 months and 3 weeks too long…..and I will not ever do that again. But I am in awe of those who can and do make that work. So I supposed that makes me in awe of you. Don’t get used to it. :)

I was just started to get comfortable on my pedastel.
In all honesty, while I’m proud of swallowing my pride and making it work; I’m not proud of the fact that I really just solved a problem of my own creation.
Sort of like starting a house on fire and being held up as a hero for rescuing a baby out of that house.
