The FIERCE! urgency of NOW
In running to the defense of Jerry Brown just 24 hours after audiotapes surfaced of the California gubenatorial candidate discussing strategy with an aide where they entertain the idea of calling challenger Meg Whitman a "whore"; although I'm sure that the Brown campaign was planning on tidying up the language a bit.
I'd like to wryly question the timing of thier endorsement, but, well, the L.A. times has done that for me :
Jerry Brown announced he has received the endorsement of the National Organization for Women, less than 24 hours after the emergence of a recorded message in which Brown can be heard in a conversation with advisors in which someone calls Whitman a "whore." Coincidence? You be the judge.
[emphasis-ed.]
As if on cue, Brown's campaign Friday released the endorsement from NOW championing Brown's record on women's rights. "As Governor, Mayor, and Attorney General, Jerry Brown has promoted and defended women’s rights,” said California NOW President Patty Bellasalma.
And even though both candidates are "pro-choice", Brown is a Democrat, which means his absolute moral authority as well as his dedication to orthodox feminism is beyond question or reproach...Naturally...
Cap'n Ed voices the incredulity of many when he says:
So let’s get this straight. NOW has endorsed the man whose team wanted to castigate a female opponent as a “whore,” and come out in opposition to the pro-choice woman and successful entrepreneur running on the other ticket. And they jumped into the race in less than a day after that audio surfaced.
Clearly, NOW is more concerned with Democratic Party status than with the actual progress of women, which Whitman represents, even though Whitman supports NOW’s biggest policy issue. NOW’s leadership doesn’t even have the fig leaf of abortion to cover its transparent toadying to the Democrats.
Transparency. You gotta love it, am I right?
Not only is thier shameless partisanship on display, but so too the usual and customary breathtaking hypocrisy; the same kind of hypocrisy that many MFM alleged journalists maintain as thier own motivation for castigating conservatives at the drop of a hat, while giving liberal Democtats an assenting wink-and-a-nod.
Personally, it reminds me of the deafening silence of the feminists during the Clinton/Lewinsky episode in the late 90's. No talk of abusing power relationships. No rebukes for taking advantage of a young woman. Nothing. Nada. Zip...
I can't speak for others, especially the women of America, but just like I'm done with the VFW for endorsing Ron Klein instead of retired WAR HERO! Colonel Allen West-the veteran in that Congressional race-so too would I hope that American women, feminist and non-feminist alike, would be done with NOW after this shameful display.
What do you think, kind reader?
[UPDATE]: In her own inimitable way, Lori Ziganto of Snark and Boobs wieghs in on how, in thier electoral desperation, the men and women of the left resort to the old standbys of slurs, personal attacks, and dehumanization. This is a must-read for all conservative women.
Oh, and stay classy progressive Dems...

A video worth a few moments of your time
Not for what it will teach you, but, well, for the affirmation, baby ! Especially as of late, when, headed into the midterm election season we increasingly hear even larger loads of horse hockey than usual and customary emanating from national politicians and the MFM punditry that carry their water.
In this short film, by PJTV's Andrew Klavan, he points out the near delicious irony of our Present-dent adopting many of the Boooooooooooooosh! policies he lamented and decried during the 2008 campaign; and how the useful idiots in the legacy media applaud the very same policies they spoke of then, if mentioned at all, that is, in hushed tones of apprehension, dread, and absolute skepticism. My personal favorite is when he cites 3 newspapers using the same verbage to hand-wring over a particular Bush policy; surely a case of journo-list prompting, non?
But, as always, Cap'n Ed put's it well when he observes:
Funny how all of those policies that Obama hated suddenly look a lot better once he got burned by his own. We’ll see if he learns the same lessons on economics, or at least on calendars and accountability.
Yeah, somehow, I think not. Or at least he won't admit it. I mean, yesterday while palavering on about the economy, jobs saved or created, blah, blah, blah, Obama couldn't resist the opportunity to trot out his go-to meme:
“They’re going remember the policies that got us into this mess as well,” Obama said, referring to the previous Republican administration. “And they sure as heck don’t want to go back to those.”…
In a word; Boooooooooooooooosh! But, that's our Barry, a paragon of responsibility and virtue. Instead of, "the buck stops here", his motto should be, "the buck never stops being passed".
These folks seem to live in a fantasy world, and, I worry that they're starting to believe their own propaganda regarding their awesomeness, abilities, and absolute moral authority. I mean, a few days after having a hissy fit over Gibbs' remarks on Meet The Press, regarding the mid-terms, Granny Botox McRitus Cruella DeVille wanna-be is actually circulating a letter guaranteeing that Democrats will retain control in the House; while, behind the scenes, blaming the Senate for the electoral woes of her members, since, you know, they wouldn't rubber stamp Obama's agenda as fast as she was willing to.Or, in a different neighborhood of la-la land, Harris and VandeHei at politico wonder aloud why their awesomely successful Present-dent isn't doing better in the polls? Amazing, isn't it? I guess they're of like mind with that putz Bill Press, and believe that the public is either too stupid, or spoiled, to be able to comprehend Obama's greatness. Sure guys, whatevz...Keep telling yourselves that, because, we're not buying it...
Anyway, check out the video; it's good for a few chuckles, and a few facts as well. Come for the validation, and stay for the epistemic closure !
And, as always, let us know what you think.
PriO!rities
I'm starting to wonder if the President understands the meaning of the word. But like his grasp of actual history facts, perhaps vocabulary wasn't a subject he embraced at Harvard; or maybe it's just the usual progressive fungibility of meaning that our pal Jeff Goldstein at Protein Wisdom has written about over the years.
Mr. Obama has said for some time that his administration is focusing laser-like on jobs and the economy, but their lastest push on immigration, certainly in response to the recent Arizona immigration law but also as part of a larger mid-term electoral calculus, has many members of his own party scratching their heads in puzzlement.
In a private meeting with White House officials this weekend, Democratic governors voiced deep anxiety about the Obama administration’s suit against Arizona’s new immigration law, worrying that it could cost a vulnerable Democratic Party in the fall elections.
At the Democrats’ meeting on Saturday, some governors bemoaned the timing of the Justice Department lawsuit, according to two governors who spoke anonymously because the discussion was private.
“Universally the governors are saying, ‘We’ve got to talk about jobs,’ ” Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, a Democrat, said in an interview. “And all of a sudden we have immigration going on.”
He added, “It is such a toxic subject, such an important time for Democrats.”
Indeed. I would remind the Governor that it is also both a toxic subject and an important time for America as well.
Then there's the ongoing disaster in the Gulf, which is at least as serious, or arguably worse, than Katrina. In September 2005, just a few weeks after the initial disaster, most of the media was obsessing over how the Booooooooooosh! administration "blew it". But today, months after the seriousness of the spill has become apparent the silence of the legacy media is deafening.
In fact, just like his declaration of a "hard pivot" to, and laser like focus on, jobs and the economy has reached it's expiration date, so too has Obama's promise that his administration will "not rest" until the disaster is dealt with.
Under pressure to get the leak stopped, Obama said: "We will not rest until this well is shut, the environment is repaired and the cleanup is complete."
That was on May 26th. And, as Cap'n Ed notes, this past weekend President Kickazz enjoyed his 9th or 10th day of not-rest at the golf course. And soon, he'll be enjoying some non-rest in Maine. I guess the Gulf coast resorts that he encouraged us all to patronize are all booked up, or, you know, what is good for thee, is not for me .
But in-between now and the start of his vacation, I'm sure he'll be working tirelessly on the nation's business. That is, if he's not busy shooting hoops with LeBron James. But who knows, maybe Mr. James has a good strategy for dealing with the leaking well head, I mean, he did live in Cleveland, and perhaps he studied engineering in college. Oh, wait...
By the way, this would be the same Mr. James who recently left Cleveland for more pastel pastures of Miami; an kerfuffle that I've been loathe to address for a variety of reasons, chief among which is tremendous indifference. But, race-baiter exraordinaire Jesse Jackson has no such compunction. He called out the Cavaliers owner, who public expressed his personal sense of betrayed loyalty, for exhibiting a slaveholder's mentality:
Jesse Jackson criticized Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert on Sunday, saying Gilbert sees LeBron James as a "runaway slave" and that the owner's comments after the free-agent forward decided to join the Miami Heat put the player in danger.
In danger of what? A higher tax bracket? Memo to Jesse the J; slaves didn't get multi-year contracts that most likely will involve tens of millions of dollars, and they certainly didn't get a choice of venue. Maybe though, when shooting some hoops with the President who never rests, he can get O! or his boy Holder to do him a solid, and deal with that Gilbert. Who knows, his remarks may have bordered on, gasp, "hate speech", or perhaps the IRS might need to look more deeply into his last few years returns. After all, according to the Chicago rules, everything is fair game.
But, maybe I'm just being hard on the Present-dent. I mean, there's no chance that the progressively inclined media would be employing a double standard; treating his recreational pursuits a necessary breaks for "recharging" and "blowing off steam" as opposed to the blatant "goldbricking" of Mr. Boooooooooooosh!
To his credit, Captain Kickazz did dispatch a TOP! specialist to the Guld coast this week:
First lady Michelle Obama on Monday will make her first trip to the Gulf Coast since the BP oil spill by visiting Panama City Beach, Fla., aides said today.
So what if he's on the links, he's got Michelle down there to "strongarm" that well into submission. Why, she'll probably be able to stop that nasty ol' leak simply by threatening to take it to a show; the gun show !
After her speech to residents, that is, probably assuring them that Barack "won't rest" until the situation is resolved. But we may never actually hear about the entire visit until, and unless, there is an "official" White House press release;
She will deliver a speech to area residents after being briefed by officials and local leaders, aides said. The briefing largely will be closed to the press. [emphasis-ed.]
Because of the Transparency !
Now watch this drive...
