Palin Unloads On Obama…Again !

In her latest Facebook post titled: Conquering the Storm.  The subject, of course, is economics. Specifically our overwhelming debt, the S&P downgrade, and the abject failure of Obamanomics.  It's definitely a must-read.  Here's a taste:

In the coming days we’ll sort through the repercussions of S&P’s downgrade of our credit rating, including concerns about the impact a potential interest rate increase would have on our ability to service our suffocating $14.5 trillion debt.

Back in December 2010, I wrote: “If the European debt crisis teaches us anything, it’s that tomorrow always comes. Sooner or later, the markets will expect us to settle the bill for the enormous Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending binge. We’ve already been warned by the credit ratings agency Moody’s that unless we get serious about reducing our deficit, we may face a downgrade of our credit rating.” And again in January, in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address I wrote: “With credit ratings agency Moody’s warning us that the federal government must reverse the rapid growth of national debt or face losing our triple-A rating, keep in mind that a nation doesn’t look so ‘great’ when its credit rating is in tatters.”

One doesn’t need a Harvard Law degree to figure this out! Just look across the pond at Europe. European nations with less debt and smaller deficits than ours and with real “austerity” plans in place to deal with them have had their ratings downgraded. By what magical thinking did we figure we could run up perpetual trillion dollar deficits and still somehow avoid the unforgiving mathematics of a downgrade? Nothing is ever “too big to fail.” And there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Didn’t we all learn that in our micro and macro econ classes? I did at the University of Idaho. How could Obama skip through Columbia and Harvard without learning that?
[emphasis-ed]

She goes on to talk about strong policy prescriptions for turning the US economy around, getting us back on track, and restoring prosperity through cutting spending, shrinking government, and drastically changing Obama's stifling energy policy.  Serious proposals for serious times...

Then she wraps it all up with a strong finish, tellin' it like it is; Sarahcuda style:

Be wary of the efforts President Obama makes to “fix” the debt problem. The more he tries to “fix” things, the worse they get because his “solutions” always involve spending more, taxing more, growing government, and increasing debt. This debt problem is the greatest challenge facing our country today. Obviously, President Obama doesn’t have a plan or even a notion of how to deal with it. His press conference today was just a rehash of his old talking points and finger-pointing. That’s why he can’t be re-elected in 2012.

Our economic news is disheartening and the task before us can seem daunting, but we must not lose our sense of optimism. People look around today and may see only the negative. They see a culture and a nation in decline, but that’s not who we are! America must regain its optimistic pioneering spirit again. Our founders declared that “we were born the heirs of freedom.” We are the heirs of those who froze with Washington at Valley Forge, who held the line at Gettysburg, who freed the slaves, carved a nation out of the wilderness, and allowed reward for work ethic. We are the sons and daughters of that Greatest Generation who stormed the beaches of Normandy, raised the flag at Iwo Jima, and made America the strongest and most prosperous nation in the history of mankind. By God, we will not squander what has been given us!

I've said it before, but I'll reprise now; she sounds positively Reagan-esque, in tone and content...

And while many here may not exactly count themselves among Palin's supporters, if she throws down a, "There they go again...", in an affable reply to an oft-repeated, tiresome, progressive talking point; y'all might as well toss me a life preserver, because I'll be completely in the tank.

What do you think, kind reader? Both of her post and of her, broadly speaking of course.

Palin pops a persistent meme bubble

Not so fast, smart guy...

That she's an attractive but hopelessly stupid person; and in the process of doing so smacks a WSJ reporter down with a velvet gloved backhand.

After NRO published exerpts from an upcoming speech, one she gave tonight in Phoenix, where she was critical of Bernanke's planned quantitative easing because of the commodity inflation that will most likely accompany it, the WSJ's Sudeep Reddy questioned her assertion contending, “Grocery prices haven’t risen all that significantly, in fact.”

The backhand comes when Palin references a WSJ article written 4 days earlier describing how supermarkets were being forced to pass increased food costs on to already strapped consumers, and asks rhetorically whether Mr. Reddy bothers to read his own newspaper's articles.  Says sister Sarah:

Now I realize I’m just a former governor and current housewife from Alaska, but even humble folks like me can read the newspaper. I’m surprised a prestigious reporter for the Wall Street Journal doesn’t.

Delicious...I wonder if Couric will take notice of the fact that Palin reads the Wall Street Journal?  Probably not.  But perhaps a larger question is, will the legacy media pick up on this story, specifically Fox which is also owned by Murdoch's Newscorp, and will Sudeep Reddy issue an apology/correction.

My guess?  Someone like O'Reilly may discuss this, but otherwise, no way; although I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, at least by Mr. Reddy.

But I won't hold my breath.  Because, you know, the MFM never let's a good meme go to waste.

What do you think?

Palin unloads on Princess Lisa for bullying local radio host

Who had the temerity to mock her efforts to circumvent Alaskan tradition.  The other day I posted about radio host Dan Fagan's call for everyday Alaskans to register as write in candidates, in the wake of a favorable Alaskan suprememcourt finding for Princess Lisa M-whatevz, in order to show the Princess that they wouldn't stand for the court bending the rules to suit her need, and more than 100 responded.  Needless to say, that didn;'t endear Fagan with her royal highness...

So of course, instead of taking her lumps, she chose to lawyer up ! and had high powered attorneys threaten the small radio station with a huge lawsuit, the outcome of which probably was unimportant to her, the important point being that she could afford to legally harrass them, but they could ill afford to defend themselves.  Kind of like all of the nutroot activists did to Palin when they filed all of the ethics complaint suits against her as Governor; all charges she was ultimately cleared of, but that threatened the financial future of her family none the less.

Perhaps that's part of motivated  Sarah to UNLOAD! on Princess Lisa:

Yesterday, Lisa Murkowski’s hired guns threatened radio host Dan Fagan, and more importantly, the station that airs Fagan’s show, with legal action for allegedly illegal “electioneering.” The station, unlike Murkowski, who is flush with millions of dollars from vested corporate interests, does not have a budget for a legal defense. So it did what any small market station would do when threatened by Beltway lawyers charging $500 to $1000 an hour – they pulled Dan Fagan off the air.

Individuals like Dan Fagan have a fundamental right to speak their minds without threats from the incumbent Senator from Alaska. It is hard to find a constitutional right Americans cherish more than the right to free speech. This was a right Joe Miller, as a decorated combat veteran – a tank commander tested in battle, was willing to die to defend. Dan Fagan has not always agreed with me, but I will gladly defend his right to speak freely on his radio show, which he has often used to criticize me. In fact, Fagan has actually used his radio show to attack and insult me, my husband, my children, and my family in just about every way possible. He was especially insulting to my son, who left for a war zone to defend Fagan’s right to attack our family. But when I was his governor, I never would have dreamed of threatening his right to free speech. I support him in this fight because this D.C. Beltway thuggery, as exemplified by Lisa Murkowski’s latest threat, is ruining our country. The powers that be want ordinary Americans to sit down and shut up and let the ruling class ride us right off the debt cliff we’re heading towards with Obama, Pelosi, and Reid steering the nation’s car. We can’t let them. Now is the time to put aside our past differences and stand up to the establishment powers.[emphasis-ed.]

Well said Madam, I needn't contribute to such withering fire...

That right there shows the kind of character that can't be bestowed on one with a sheepskin, no matter how prestigious the institution; character that Obama will never have.

The Zen of Palin [Update by Dan]

The meme being floated by the self-appointed Intelligentsia with regard to Palin is that she is somehow not up to snuff on the issues of the day. That somehow she is ignorant of the issues that face us and lacks the knowledge to lead - offering criticisms rather than potential solutions. I find this a most obnoxious meme.

Alas, these critiques come from the very people Palin (and indeed all who find themselves moved by her speeches) has rightly targeted in her criticisms. And once again, instead of countering her complaints, they seek only to malign.

It is true that Palin has not demonstrated, on a national level, an ability to solve the major problems that face this country. Most obviously because she has not had an opportunity to do so. It is true that her resume does not include elbow-rubbing with the movers and shakers inside the Beltway. It is true she may not even comprehend how the "Game" is played in DC. We can only go on our gut instinct about her and her successes in Alaska... we can only take a sort of leap of faith when it comes to Palin. We can only, those of us who see in her something more than a charismatic pit-bull in chief, imagine what she might accomplish in the Oval Office.

To those that criticize that she lacks the necessary gravitas, I would only chuckle. For Obama, who now sits in the Oval Office, has not demonstrated the ability to solve the major problems that face this country, despite having a year of opportunities to do so. And this man IS the mover and shaker in the Beltway. The man whose elbows every political creature, especially in the early days of his presidency, have been trying to rub. Obama, who stands behind the presidential seal, who was voted into office with the hope that the "Game" Palin is now accused of not understanding would have its rules upended with an Obama victory, was beneficiary of a Giant Leap of Faith. And many who voted him into office realize that he is maybe not the One they anticipated... he is not the Game-Changer they had envisioned when they cast their ballots. Quite the contrary - he is now faced with the realities of DC. And his ability to navigate the political landscape is woeful at best. In some fashion he really seems not to understand the rules at all. And certainly does not comprehend the finer, more delicate politics involved. Never mind his complete detachment from the Will of the People.

It is true the Framers envisioned an apparatus given to the status quo. It is true they fashioned mechanism that had a high propensity to gridlock. And thankfully so. It is true that the vibrancy of our federal government is due to its preference for inaction. And again, thankfully so. So that no man or woman should ever master the mechanism is what all Constitutionalists pray for. That no so-called charismatic executive will ever seduce her entirely... this Lady Liberty... is what we should celebrate when we think of the Genius built into the apparatus.

So, really, at the end of the day, should we desire an executive that seeks to master that which is not to be mastered? Or should we tend toward those who are governed by true and abiding love of principle? Should we prefer an ideologue whose belief-system seeks to upend the apparatus? Or should we prefer one who is guided by principles which are, to the degree possible given Lady Liberty's disagreeable nature, most harmonious with her very essence?

From this perspective, I cannot help to think that Palin, as studied or learned as she may or may not be, is a creature who sings a theme that resonates with the institutional instrument itself. At least to the degree that is possible. I do not think the concept of limited government, limited interference, limited confiscatory taxation, limited oversight of commerce, limited social programming, limited policing of ever decreasing freedoms, and limited governance is trite. Not in the least. Palin herself is governed by these very principles. These, the underlying beliefs she proclaims, are broad but profound. And they are very much in harmony with the machine the Framers constructed. A master craftsman of any medium spends all of his initial energies understanding his medium. And at first (while still a novice) begins by trying to master it. Eventually realizing the folly of artistic masturbation, he then comprehends that there are limitations in the material he at first sought to master. If he is sufficiently dedicated and bright enough, he conforms himself to the least degree possible to the innate limitations of the medium.  Then, understanding what can be and what will not be at the macro level, asserts himself within the medium prudently. Artistic Genius is most often affiliated with those who intuitively comprehend that  equilibrium is only to be had when the master sublimates the creaturely desire to master the medium, and instead gives himself to achieving harmony with it at the first - and then and only then allowing for his own personal style to express itself.

One must first have two hands to "master" the violin. Drum sticks just won't do it. Ever. No matter who wields them. And no matter what they wear when they try.

Could we call her wise? Or at least, enlightened in a Mr. Magoo sort of way? I think so. And then what about the Golden Boy who approaches the battered violin each and every day with drumsticks? So confident is Obama that today - tomorrow - or the next - HE will eventually find a way to beat a grand opus out of it? And that the violin will become very much not at all what it is or ever will be... what kind of Towering Intellect sees in a violin a drum set?

Jerry Wilson of Goldfish and Clowns, which has a sleek new look, makes complementary points:

Sarah Palin is the mirror in which the wannabes see their insignificance. She doesn’t need the blogger prattlers or the Twitter twits or puffed-up pundits. She blows right past them, communicating directly with the people. The genuine media high fliers, the true high rollers — Limbaugh, Levin, Beck, Hannity — have both the intelligence to give her free reign and the humility to know her star shines far brighter than even theirs, wisely yielding the stage to her whenever possible. They understand the concept of serving the greater good, and act accordingly.

William Jacobson's noticed the misogyny.

Of polls and Presidents

3ps

Past, present and maybe future.  While I've been very busy over the last few days, among the items that piqued my interest were the results of several national polls; some surprising, others not so much.

Of course, the President's numbers have been looking bad lately.  Not only according to Rasmussen, perhaps the most accurate in the business, but also among other organizations who through methodology or ideological disposition which have yielded more amenable results for Mr. Obama in the past.  In fact, Obama's approval ratings are now solidly below 50% in most of the major national polls, see for yourself, here are the results for Quinnipiac, CNN, and Gallup; in fact CBS even has him at a flat 50%!  Of course, the result out of the White House has been true to form, with their spokes-tool Robert Gibbs damning the messengers instead:

“If I was a heart patient and Gallup was my EKG I’d visit my doctor,” Gibbs said. “If you look back I think five days ago we were, there was an 11 point spread, now there’s a one point spread.”

Gibbs continued, “you know, I mean I’m sure a six year old with a crayon could do something not unlike that. I don’t put a lot of stake in, never have, in the EKG that is the daily Gallup trend. I don’t pay a lot of attention to meaninglessness.”

Typical...

But perhaps what is most interesting, and suprising really, are a couple of results that compare the Presidents to other prominent national politicians.  When asked to choose between the current President and his predecessor, Obama, the messianic hope of all mankind, only out polled BusHitler!, the scourge of all enlightened Niebuhr reading, pants-crease-admiring, thinking Americans by a scant 6 points! And in what must be a sign of a coming electoral apocalypse for the far left Democrats, the difference in public approval of Obama and Palin is now 1 point; inside the error margin.

Now that's Change! that I can believe in.

Is Obama in the fast lane on the road to perdition

Obama being lampooned on Saturday Night Live

Obama being lampooned on Saturday Night Live (click to enlarge)

Or is he just on the exit ramp?  In our Friday post on Sarah Palin, I touched on the inconvenient truth that the polls are headed south for the won !, but also how that was no sure sign of any decline in his status as a sacrosanct pop-icon, who in the opinion of the late night comics never! did anything worthy of spoofing, in addition to his standing as the pope of post-racial, post-partisan, political correctness.

Well, one of the most important indicators of that status has revealed a marked decline indeed.  Saturday night live weighed in, by firing up Obama over his ebbing domestic credibility, with respect to his ambitious statist agenda and profligate spending, as well as tangentially mocking the lack of respect he gets from the very adversaries he so desperately wants to court.  And recall that it's only been little more than a month since SNL skewered the President for accomplishing nothing; Just Words!   But, in the interest of fairness they also had a spoof on Palin as well, done in the form of a movie trailer for, "A DNC film from the mind of Kieth Olbermann", one where Glenn Beck was VP; and so the nation would go from an unofficial clown in Biden to one that at least has professional bona fides.

But truthfully, the ridicule of Obama by SNL may not be as viral as the goof on Palin; owing to SNL's mediocre ratings as well as the won!'s many, many, water carriers allies in the legacy media.  InstaGlenn wryly quips:

I eagerly await Wolf Blitzer’s fact-checking

Still, this is strike 2 for Obama on SNL, strike 3 of you count the primaries.  And while ridicule of the President hasn't reached the levels of Bush as of yet, this skit reveals a tectonic shift in comedic attitudes about Obama's untouchability.  I guess the "spoofing" light is now lit...

Here are Ace's and AllahP's respective takes on the skit.

The Renaissance of Sarah Palin.

sistah wasilla

TV ratings for November 18, 2009; courtesy of the Drudge Report. (click to enlarge)

Sarah Palin sure seems to be gathering steam lately, and there’s strong evidence that the public is giving her a second look; perhaps the realization of Mr. Obama’s shortcomings is accentuating her positives more than any negatives that the lamestream media tries to keep the public’s attention focused on.  Efforts that have achieved a whole new level of transparent desperation lately, with MSNBC reporters attending Palin book signing events armed with talking points to challenge her many fans, and Chris “Tingle” Matthews obsessing about the “monochromatic” nature of ‘Cuda’s fans.  I guess Chris “Tingle” needed to find a new angle, since lately the race card is looking a bit dog-eared from overplaying it; attempting to use it against anyone opposing the President’s political agenda.

The evidence of this resurgence is manifold.  To begin with, her new book, “Going Rogue: An American Life”, sold 300,000 copies on the first day it was released!  I guess it won’t be so hard after all to reach the 400,000 copies sold break even point, eh?  And then there are the TV ratings that spike when she’s on interview programs.  Not only did her interview last night propel Hannity’s ratings past O’Reilly's usual high metric, but her recent appearance on Chewbacca’s Michelle Obama’s friend Thulsa Doom’s Oprah Winfrey’s program registered the largest audience that show has drawn in years!

But a real measure of the change in public perception of Palin is reflected in a recent Fox news poll where her favorables were found to be 47/42 (favorable/unfavorable opinion):

Despite being characterized by many as a divisive force in her party and the nation, Americans are much more likely to give Palin a positive rating (47 percent favorable) than another prominent female leader — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (28 percent favorable). Moreover, about six in 10 Americans (61 percent) think Palin has been treated unfairly by the press, according to the latest Fox News poll…

Among self-identified Republicans in the survey, Palin gets the highest favorable ratings (70 percent) amid a group of other possible contenders for the GOP nomination, including Mike Huckabee (63 percent), Mitt Romney (60 percent) and Newt Gingrich (58 percent). Palin’s favorable score among all voters is 47 percent, up nine percentage points over last July’s reading of 38 percent…

President Obama recently stated that he “probably won’t” read Sarah Palin’s new book. But his possible opponent in the 2012 elections trails him in personal favorability by only seven points (54 percent to 47 percent). Among the critical segment of independent voters, they are virtually even (Obama at 50 percent; Palin at 49 percent).

That last part is especially topical and should concern the President, considering how his poll numbers are fading across the board.  Of course, there is the Rasmussen daily Presidential tracking poll and approval index, which today stand at 46% of respondents at least somewhat approving of Obama’s overall performance, and an approval index rating of -14.  And less those numbers be dismissed as wingnut fantasy, Quinnipiac reports an overall policy approval rating of 46%-although a higher number of respondents “like” the President, Gallup has him hovering around 50%, John Zogby has Obama’s popularity holding steady at 49% as does Public Policy Polling, and finishing off this round robin of popularity polling is Fox, who show the POTUS having the same favorability rating as Rasmussen-46%.

That’s a whole lot of “below 50%” going on…

What should be of larger concern to President Obama is the growing dissatisfaction with his performance among self identified “independents”; a 34/51 split (overall approval/disapproval).  Perhaps more troubling still is a Zogby poll which reports that independents think that the Bush administration was more transparent than the much heralded, celebrated, most Ethical!, Honest!, Brilliant!, Judicious!, and Transparent! Administration-EVAH!  And the Democrats as a party need to recognize that Obama’s coat-tails work in reverse also, as Rethugs! now lead in generic congressional balloting; an advantage that Republicans in the modern era have never enjoyed, not even in 1994 when they were swept in to power in the House of Representatives.

None of this data means that any electoral success  is “in the bag” for Sarah Palin, quite the opposite instead since the legacy media, and the fightin’ nutroots, will almost certainly strive to cement her public image as being a divisive figure primarily through the bitter, deranged, openly misogynistic, acrimonious arguments, and belittling attacks that figures such as Chris “Tingle”, Olbermann, Maddow and other “gatekeepers” of information will subject the public and Sarah Palin to.  And, wittingly or otherwise, there will be alleged conservatives “wizards of smart”, such as the Davids-Brooks and Frum, that will aid them in this endeavour by using what limited sway they have in Republican circles to  gainsay her at every opportunity; publicly supporting the elitist arguments that she is just a rube, hicktard, chillbilly that’s bad for the party in general and who will be unable to attract moderates.  It’s been more than 30 years since I’ve heard this kind of rhetoric; the same sorts of criticisms were leveled at Reagan, the only difference being the slur substitution of doddering-avuncular-doofus for rube-hicktard-chillbilly.  And that’s why it is so clear to me that the far left is reacting to what they rightly perceive as an existential threat to all the sway they’ve worked to regain; especially over the last 4 to 6 years.

The far left Democrats fear that, just as with Reagan, Sarah Palin’s cheery optimism, can-do attitude, and dedication to the traditional American ideals of national exceptionalism and individualism will resonate in a way that the elitist notions of our “betters” deciding what’s good for us never will; and fear that combined with a charisma that far exceeds the media enabled “cool” of Obama, will make for an unstoppable juggernaut.  Indeed, based pretty much solely on her charisma and  personal appeal the public is willing to give her another serious look; a development that drives liberals in the legacy media, as well as a few conservatives, to resort to doing whatever it takes to eliminate her viability as a candidate.  This dedication to the destruction of her potential political career is revealed by the maniacal response by some journalists and commentators, such as Ana Marie Cox’s decision to not let a silly detail, you know, like actually reading the entire book get in the way of her panning of it; a suspicion some have about Rod Dreher as well.  Or consider that the Associated Press assigned 11 reporters to “fact check” Palin’s book; an astonishing development on it’s face when you realize that to this day they have assigned none to fact check either of Obama’s books-either now or when he was an unknown, un-vetted, candidate who essentially came out of nowhere.  As if this doesn’t reveal sufficient and unfair bias on it’s face, as Mark Steyn wryly observes, all this squad of muckrakers uncovered were 6 minor, inconsequential errors, and between them produced a 695 word story.

What none of the folks in any of these organizations realize is that they are actually helping Palin through their deranged efforts.  Just as during the 2008 campaign, the public can tell that many legacy media outlets, and of course the nutroot blogs, are biased against her; indeed, the Fox poll showed that 6 out of 10 respondents recognized this biased and agenda driven reportage.  Add to this the public’s perception of the legacy media’s liberal bias, and the President’s continued bungling, dithering, and dedication to his far left base and their agenda, and you have a perfect storm that could possibly result in Palin’s favorable perception by the public exceeding the President’s;  resulting in a monumental sense of delicious irony, in the literary sense, writ large as well as a generous helping of schadenfreude for the targets of the left’s coordinated political attacks.

All of their efforts might just aid in Sarah Palin’s resurgence and might just propel her solidly into history too; not the dustbin though, but the annals instead, as perhaps the first woman to be elected President of the United States.

UPDATE: Dan Riehl weighs in on Sarah Palin 2.0, noting that in the public's eye she has what amounts to a fresh slate and that what happened in the past is of less importance than what happens going forward.  Oh, and he also mentions perhaps her most deranged and obsessive critic-RawMuslglutes...

When Sarah talks, CLSA listens

 Hong Kong Asia Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin addressed an audience at the CLSA Asia Pacific Markets Conference today.  Although the forum was not officially filmed, and closed to the media, reports of the happening in the Wall Street Journal and Breitbart are starting to emerge; along with some of Sarah's choice words:

Lack of government wasn’t the problem. Government policies were the problem. The marketplace didn’t fail. It became exactly as common sense would expect it to. The government ordered the loosening of lending standards. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates low. The government forced lending institutions to give loans to people who, as I say, couldn’t afford them. Speculators spotted new investment vehicles, jumped on board and rating agencies underestimated risks…

Ah, that lovely Palin common sense.  An interesting juxtaposition to Obama's apologies and ideological surrender, eh?  Read both of the linked pieces, especially the Wall Street Journal link.  And for more on this see ACE's take, and Allah Pundit; both AllahP and Breitbart have video to boot!

UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal has another full story on her speech.  And from a NY Times piece:

Mr. Goodé, a New Yorker who said he would never vote for Mrs. Palin, said she acquitted herself well.  “They really prepared her well,” he said. “She was articulate and she held her own. I give her credit. They’ve tried to categorize her as not being bright. She’s bright.”

Just.Wow...
