From our old pal Jeff Goldstein at Protein wisdom comes the news that the Senate will hold a vote on the Cut, Cap, and Balance legislation that was passed in the House of Representatives by a wide margin earlier this week:

Now, here’s the thing: Reid is going to keep the Democrats in line (though ironically, he himself promised to vote for a balanced budget); but the fact is, a number of Democratic senators campaigned on support for a balanced budget and a balanced budget amendment. (Jim DeMint says the tally is 22 Democrats and 1 independent)

We need to target them with phone calls and emails, reminding them that they now have an opportunity to honor their promises.

Jeff is entirely correct about this.  Many Senators, on both sides of the aisle, have made promises in recent years, or indicated their willingness, to vote for legislation that mandates balancing the federal budget.  But with Obama declaring his distaste for, and opposition to, CC&B you can bet that there will be a lot of pressure on Democrat Senators to hold the line and vote against the measure.

Now is the time to make your wishes known to your Senators.  Jeff's post has a list of the contact information for the 23 Senators that DeMint thinks can be swayed.  But even if your Senator(s) are not on that list you can find their contact information at the Senate's website, here.

We urge all our readers to contact their Senators, and if you have the time every member of the Senate, and tell them to support the cloture vote on CC&B.  The right to govern comes from the consent of the governed in our Republic, so tell them to support your will and allow CC&B to come to the Senate floor for an up-or-down vote.  Regardless of the outcome of that vote, we'll know which Senators are really serious about balancing the budget.

Your country needs you; DUTY CALLS! Will you answer?

Eugene Robinson wrote about what he called "spoiled brats" having a "temper tantrum."  That's not what I see; I see the losing candidates (Murkowski and Castle) thowing their own tantrums.  Those who have been lecturing the tea party activists to act like adults ought to take their own advice now.

In a year like this, you could obviously get a true conservative in a swing state like Florida or New Hampshire; but does anyone actually expect a tea party approved candidate could win California or Delaware (the only state where Obama’s approval has increased in the past year)?  Is it possible?  Sure, but what’s the saying about monkeys and posterior orifices? 

Let’s assume for a moment that Christine O’Donnell is able to ride this year’s GOP wave into the Senate; does anyone expect her to be able to win reelection when the political winds aren’t blowing as hard to the right?  Let me ask the question this way; would you rather have a one term Senator who votes with your beliefs 95% of the time, or a 4 term Senator who votes with your beliefs 60% of the time?

How do we define a RINO?  Some would consider DeMint’s esteemed colleague from SC to be a RINO.  Senator Brown is a RINO by most definitions, but would we prefer to have Martha Coakley in that seat?  The Collins/Snowe twins are an example, and they have a tendency to frustrate the hell out of conservatives, but would we prefer to see those two seats go blue?  Where is the cutoff?

Does voting for the more conservative candidate in the primary mean the seat will go blue?  Absolutely not, and I’m not suggesting conservatives should endorse moderate Republicans out of political expediency.  I do, however, think it’s naïve and dangerous to prefer a true blue Democrat to a moderate Republican (RINO).  The last few elections have seen several RINOs swept from office; but a few more RINOs might have prevented HCR from passing.

Finally, it’s important to remember the value of control of a given chamber.  Setting the agenda at the congressional level is important, and if Mike Castle’s vote prevents Harry Reid from keeping the Senate Majority leadership, is he really worse than a Democrat?  One RINO seat is potentially worth more than just one Senate or House vote.  We're not going to get a majority without Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, Chuck Grassley, and Jim DeMint.

I’m all for jumping in and fighting for your primary candidate; just don’t bail when your candidate loses.

Jump to yesterday, Head Like a Hole came on the radio in my SUV as I was driving home from running some errands which included picking durable, neutral, budget-friendly floor for my kitchen, seizing rollbacks at Walmart and scoring a sweet dollhouse for my daughter at Value Village (why does that place smell like decomp?  Nevermind).  The lyrics rings as true for me today as they did in '93, yet the message I get is the exact opposite.

Notice how in just about every category the Tea-Party folks match the country-wide demographics.  There are small, notable exceptions.  One is that it does seem like there are less black folks in the movement than nationwide, but only about by half; and indeed that is no surprise since upwards of 90 percent of that same group voted for Obama in the general election.  Another is that there are actually less unemployed that self identify with the movement than there are nationally, shattering another talking point and bit of pipe-dreaming by the far left; that when employment picks up there will be less folks attending these rallies.
I hope that Axelrod, Plouffe et al aren't planning on betting the farm on that last one...

Make sure you read all of the poll comparisons to taste the sweet, sweet, All-American goodness.

Ace, in high snark form, deliciously askes the question; " If a poll falls in the forest without reinforcing 'the Narrative' will anyone hear it?"  And then follows it up with;

For purposes of comparison, it's more white than a Kwanzaa Greeting Card Salesman Convention, but much less white than the all-white country club known as "The MSNBC Anchor Team."

Cap'n Ed also has an interesting post on the same poll, and as a bonus throws in results of another that indicates more Americans would vote for a candidate that espouses the Tea-Party principles of less government/less spending and job creation than the sooper-groovy, almost messianic, Conniver-in-chief.

SEIU and partisan hacks like Media Matters have tried to spin away the Gladney beating. They would have you believe a 130 lb diabetic, recovering luekemia patient, picked a fight with men almost twice his size. The police report puts an end to that lie.

See the entire police report here at Andrew Breitbart's site.  It clearly details that the SEIU thigs referred to Gladney using the "N" word and then the cowards beat him badly; I guess they took the President's instructions to punch back twice as heard a bit too literally...Or maybe not-who knows?

But it's no surprise that they would have little respect for their opponents as human beings.  Especially when Mr. Obama himself has taken to referring to the tax/obamacare  protesters as "teabaggers"; the filthy term mainstreamed by MSNBC.  Stay classy Mr. Obama, oh great post-partisan uniter...

I mean, you are supposed to be the President of the United States, and not just of liberal Democrats.

It kind of reminds me of the phony self-righteousness of the MSM; holding conservatives to a higher standard than liberals because of the hypocrisy.  I guess that in a universe where there were actually objective mainstream news sources, videos like these posted by Cap’n Ed, from Arizona and Illinois, would receive a lot of play because they expose the usual rank hypocrisy of the Democrat’s public assertions regarding any and all opponent; and after all, that’s what the MSM is concerned about exposing, eh?

Not.So.Much…

No, to actually report on these kind of episodes would disrupt the meta-narrative that the MSM is trying to craft for Obamacare.  And, it might have the horrible unintended consequence of legitimizing the protesters and their grievances.  We can’t have that! Not when dedicated journalists shills like Chris “Tingle” Matthews, Keith Olbermann, and Eugene Robinson are doing their duty!, trying to ensure that the Obama Presidency is successful.

But, unfortunately for people of their ilk, a large portion of the public is focused on this debate, and get word of mouth and talk radio reports of this kind of chicanery. And so ultimately this might just be a win-win for conservatives.  Not only might Obamacare be defeated, but so too might the reality of the bias and duplicity of the media be substantially impressed in the public consciousness in such a way that their propaganda will have far less impact in the future.

I mean, we can all see how well it’s working.  Just look at Obama’s soaring approval ratings!

 

UPDATE: Ooops! Spoke too soon.  Make that a trifecta.  It seems that suddenly the MSM feels that a candidates college writings are vitally important !1!1!!eleventy. Well at least when that candidate is, you know, a large state Republican in a tight race!
