POWIP Piece of Work In Progress

The Taming of the Joooooooooooo!

Would be an apt characterization of President Oblah-blah's much heralded, but otherwise banal, "Cairo II" speech today; you know, the one where he tells us, "you're welcome", for single-handedly delivering the "Arab Spring".  Ah yes, it was a decidedly nuanced performance, one where he cast himself playing the role of PetruchiO!, and the Palestinians and other Arab states as the eminently desirable Bianca...

But, alas, Netanyahu quickly made it apparent that he was in no mood for Israel to play the part of Katherina:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly rejected President Obama's call Thursday for Israel to pull back to the borders that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, calling those lines militarily "indefensible."

Obama, in a sweeping address tackling the uprisings in the Middle East and the stalled peace process, stunned Washington and Jerusalem by endorsing Palestinians' demand for their own state based on the pre-1967 borders. The break with longstanding U.S. policy appeared to immediately aggravate the Israelis, who want the borders of any future Palestinian state determined through negotiations.

In a statement released late Thursday, Netanyahu said such a withdrawal would jeopardize Israel's security and leave major West Bank settlements outside Israeli borders.

Oh, how I would like to be a fly on the wall during the meetings between Netanyahu and Gutsy McKickazz.

So, despite the AP's immediate attempt to spin this as much ado about nothing, and what will surely be the upcoming gushing and reassuring reaction by the Make-Believe-Media, it appears that, as Adam alluded to, Israelis, and by extension American Jews with family and friends there,  are about to join a host of other Obama allies in that familiar places for those who suddenly became inconvenient...

It’s official now; Israel is goin’ under the bus.

The Obama Bus

Gee, I wonder how all of the American Jews, you know the ones that reliably vote for Democrats, that were part of the 52% of Americans who brought Mr. Obama into power feel about this:

It was just a phrase at the end of President Obama’s news conference on Tuesday, but it was a stark reminder of a far-reaching shift in how the United States views the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and how aggressively it might push for a peace agreement.

When Mr. Obama declared that resolving the long-running Middle East dispute was a “vital national security interest of the United States,” he was highlighting a change that has resulted from a lengthy debate among his top officials over how best to balance support for Israel against other American interests.

Bamboozled perhaps?  Flim-flammed?  Hokey-doked?  Are you getting the impression that you just might not be able to reliably trust anything that he tells you?  Or, are you ready to say, "To Sheol with the holy land and any relatives we might have there, I support Obama-I'm no RAAAAAAAAAAACIST!".  So you find yourself wondering just what exactly are the other American interests Obama is talking about.

This shift, described by administration officials who did not want to be quoted by name when discussing internal discussions, is driving the White House’s urgency to help broker a Middle East peace deal. It increases the likelihood that Mr. Obama, frustrated by the inability of the Israelis and the Palestinians to come to terms, will offer his own proposed parameters for an eventual Palestinian state.

Mr. Obama said conflicts like the one in the Middle East ended up “costing us significantly in terms of both blood and treasure” — drawing an explicit link between the Israeli-Palestinian strife and the safety of American soldiers as they battle Islamic extremism and terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Ah, so that's what our other interest are-The Palestinians...I guess that Edward Said and Samantha Power had more of an effect on Obama's opinions than, you know, the fact that Israel-the only actual democracy in the middle east-has been one of our staunchest allies in the region for more than 50 years.

And notwithstanding General Petraeus' statement of concern about how the Israeli-Palestinian issue may effect relations with other middle east nations, it's probably not a one-to-one correlation that the conflict in and of itself is driving Al-Queda's actions.  Cap'n Ed points out correctly that Al-Queda initially had goals of driving America from Saudi Arabia, where we were based during and following Operation Desert Storm, as well as deposing the Saudi royal family.

This is just our narcissist-in-chief indulging his own personal biases that he's formed over the years, no doubt influenced by the anti-semites he's "pal'd around with"-Like Said, Wright, Farrakhan, Phleger, and...Jimmy Carter!  It's also another facet of his apologize and appease strategy.  And we all know how well that has worked so far...

Just as the Russians and Chinese will not respond in the way he thinks, nor the Iranians, neither will the Palestinians.  They will continue to milk the "peace process" for all it's worth.  And each time Obama pushes the Israelis to give more, the Palestinians will ask for another pound of flesh and square kilometer of land; until they finally say enough and are done with us by their own accord.

Just another example of our President treating our allies shabbily, while rushing to coddle our enemies in the misguided notion that they will respond to anything other than absolute strength, both militarily, of conviction, and of will.

SMART POWER!

Israelis? Get your things together,’cuz the bus is coming

Former US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, rightly RIPS Obama on his UN speech. From "The Corner" at NRO:

“It was a very naïve, Wilsonian speech, and very revealing of Obama’s foreign policy,” says Bolton. “Overall, it was so apologetic for the actions of prior administrations, in an effort to distance Obama from them, that it became yet another symbol of American weakness in the wake of the president’s decision to abandon missile sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, and his recent manifest hesitation over what to do in Afghanistan.”

Weasel Zippers provides a video of Bolton being interviewed on FOX by Megan Kelly, during which he says of the President, "He put Israel on the chopping block"...

i wonder if there's any new cases of buyers remorse in Manhattan today?

UPDATE: Bolton isn't the only one dissatisfied with Obama's performance to date.  A quote from a time magazine interview published today:

What's your take on President Obama thus far?
Weak. Waffling, wavering, ambiguous and overwhelmingly concessionary.

Spoken by the obviously racist, h8ting, bastion of wingnuttia...Ralph Nader ?!?

UPDATE II: Perhaps the title of the director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, Nile Gardiner's, essay title says it all; "The UN loves Barack Obama because he is weak".

He is the first American president who has made an art form out of apologizing for the United States, which he has done on numerous occasions on foreign soil, from Strasbourg to Cairo. The Obama mantra appears to be – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism contempt.
...
Simply put, Barack Obama is loved at the UN because he largely fails to advance real American leadership. This is a dangerous strategy of decline that will weaken US power and make her far more vulnerable to attack.

Do yourself a favor and read the whole thing...

UPDATE III: Thanks to Nice Deb for the link in her roundup of these revoltin' developments.

Something tells me that from here on out the road is going to get mighty tough to hoe for Mr. Obama...
